How to Monitor Data Export in ServiceNow

Posted on 20 Feb 2022 · 1 min read

ServiceNow introduced the Export Events (isc_export_event) table. This table stores export transactions performed by any user and gives you complete information about:

  • What data is being exported
  • Who exported the data
  • When the data was exported

Why This Matters

Data export is a common and often under-monitored activity. Whether it's a user downloading a large list of customer records or an integration pulling data in bulk, having a complete audit trail is essential for security and compliance.

The isc_export_event table gives you this visibility out of the box, with no custom development required.

How to Use It

Navigate to the isc_export_event table in your ServiceNow instance. You can build reports and dashboards on top of it to:

  • Alert when unusually large exports occur
  • Track which users are exporting sensitive tables
  • Identify patterns that might indicate data exfiltration

This is a small feature with a large compliance impact — worth adding to your security monitoring practice.
